After signing with producer/songwriter Greg Hambleton on 1 July 1970 (Canada Day), Madrigal recorded “I Believe In Sunshine” b/w “Lady” at Sound Canada Studios. By September, shortly after release on the Tuesday label (GH102), it started to chart on radio nationally. By November, it was a national sales hit and in early 1971 Greg and the band went back in the studio to complete the album. Vocalist Peter Boynton wrote many of the tracks on the album (“Judge By The Book” & “We Are Here“) and Rick Henderson contributed “Halelujah” & “Tell Her That”.
MADRIGAL, a classic example of the ‘sunshine-pop’ genre of rock music, was formed by Peter Boynton (vocals & piano), John Swainson (bass & vocals), Don Simpson (drums & vocals) and Rick Henderson (guitars & vocals) in 1968 during their days at Willowdale Junior High School north of Toronto.
